From One Journey To The Next
We work very hard to ensure as many puppies as possible make it to become a See Differently Guide or Assistance Dog. Yet, we maintain the highest standards for these working dogs and sometimes for health or temperament reasons, the dogs aren’t right for the program.
Sometimes we will find different careers for them, as therapy or facility dogs or in other service programs. But sometimes, the best role for the dog is as a fantastic pet!
Sometimes too we need homes for retired dogs. It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a client gets a new dog and can no longer keep their retired dog.

Every Guide & Assistance Dog begins their journey with See Differently as a puppy, with the goal, of preparing them for a life-changing role supporting someone to live more independently.
While not every dog goes on to become a Guide or Assistance Dog, each one remains a very special part of the See Differently family – For some, their next chapter is as a much-loved companion in a new home.

Applying for an adoption dog?
Let us know if you are interested in either adopting a career change dog or a retired dog, and we’ll let you know if a suitable dog is available.
We find out a bit about you, where you live and your family situation, just so we can make a good match that will, work for you and the dog.
How much does it cost to adopt a dog?
See Differently charges an adoption fee for all dogs under the age of three. The fees are used to fund our puppy program and deliver the next generation of Guide & Assistance dogs.
All dogs made available for adoption are de-sexed, fully vaccinated and up to date with their flea and worming protection. You will also receive a welcome care pack for your dog which includes a bag of high-quality dog food and some toys.
Why are some dogs available for adoption?
Our dogs are carefully assessed throughout their training journey. White we work hard to prepare as many dogs as possible for Guide or Assistance Dog careers, not every dog is suited to this type of work.
Some dogs may prefer a different lifestyle, have personality traits that make them better suited to family life, or simply thrive in a non-working environment. When this happens, we focus on finding the right home where they can Live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Are adopted dogs fully trained?
Every dog available through our adoption program has received extensive care, socialisation and training. However, they are not fully trained Guide or Assistance Dogs.
Some dogs may require ongoing training, reinforcement of good behaviours, or support as they settle into their new home. Our team will provide information about each dog’s individual needs to help ensure a successful match.
How are adoption applicants selected?
Our goal is to find the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter. We carefully review each application, taking into consideration factors such as lifestyle, household environment, activity levels and experience with dogs.
The most suitable applicant will be contacted to discuss the next steps. White we would love every applicant to be successful, demand for our dogs is often high, and not every application can be matched.

There a different roles are available with varying time commitments.
