At just 16 years old, Sienna’s passion for baking has flourished into a remarkable opportunity, thanks to See Differently’s School Leavers Employment Services (SLES). With the support of her Highly Specialised SLES Consultant – Jordan, Sienna, who has Autism, has secured a work placement at the renowned Muratti Cakes, where her love for creativity and confectionery is being nurtured.

Sienna’s love for baking started when she was little, making cookies with her family. Over time, she discovered a particular fondness for creating treats like caramel and white chocolate fudge. “I’ve always enjoyed cooking, but baking is where I get to be really creative,” Sienna shared. Her passion continued to grow, especially during her Home Economics classes, where she could experiment and express herself through her culinary creations.

Sienna’s placement at Muratti Cakes is a significant step toward her dream career. The 240-hour placement spans across three days a week, and she’s already completed three to four weeks. “It’s good, and everyone’s really nice and supportive,” Sienna said. Jordan ensured that Sienna’s work environment was not only safe but also a place where she could thrive and be happy.

Muratti Cakes has welcomed Sienna with open arms, allowing her to explore various aspects of the bakery. From decorating cakes to learning new techniques, Sienna is getting hands-on experience in a professional setting. “I love the variety of things I get to do here, and the food is amazing!” she added.

Sienna first started working with Jordan about eight months ago. Together, they focused on her top priority: securing a placement at Muratti. Jordan assisted Sienna in building a strong resume and cover letter, ensuring all necessary paperwork was completed for TAFE SA. His support didn’t stop there – Jordan has been a constant source of encouragement, helping Sienna gain the confidence she needed to succeed.

Before Jordan, I didn’t have anyone to help me, now, I feel like I’m really achieving something.

Sienna’s journey with See Differently began through her father’s discovery of the SLES. With a Certificate III in Patisserie under her belt, Sienna was eager to find a placement where she could apply her skills. Thanks to SLES she’s now on her way to a promising career, creating beautiful and delicious treats for Muratti Cakes and even making cakes for family and friends in her spare time.

Sienna’s experience at Muratti Cakes has been transformative. Her confidence has soared, and she’s come out of her shell, shining in ways she never imagined. “Last year, I was just going through the motions at school. Now, I feel like I’m thriving,” Sienna shared. Jordan’s unwavering support has played a crucial role in her success, pushing her to achieve her best.

When asked what she would tell someone considering See Differently’s SLES, Sienna said, “It’s good because they help you, and you get to choose the music!” Her journey serves as an inspiration to others, showing how the right support can lead to incredible personal and professional growth.

As Sienna continues to excel in her placement, her future in the world of patisserie looks bright. Reflecting on her progress, she feels proud of how far she’s come. “The first person I was before to the person I am now—it’s inspiring,” Sienna said. She’s excited to see what the future holds and is grateful for the opportunity to pursue her passion.

Sienna’s story is a testament to the impact of See Differently’s SLES. With the right support, students like Sienna can overcome challenges and achieve their dreams, one sweet step at a time.
